Java instead of C?

Posted by heinidev on September 3, 2008

At the moment I’m a first year student at the University of Stellenbosch. I didn’t really know what I wanted to study this year, so I started with a broad Bsc. Now that I have an idea of what all the subject are about, I decided I should go study Computer Science next year, seeing as I love working with computer and programming. I was so keen to start, I actually contacted the head of the department to find out of the book will stay the same next year. Then I can buy it now and start reading through it. His reply shocked me. The course was originally in C. Now it is in Java. Now, correct me if I’m wrong (I did java in school), but java isn’t nearly as powerful as C. And wouldn’t you want to learn the more powerful language in a varsity course? If anyone reads this and has any comments to make on this, please do, because this is a bit strange to me…
